Getting the most out of C4D's particles


ReelSmart Motion Blur is an AfterEffects plug-in that is capable of some very cool effects, beyond the obvious motion blur.

Here, I am using it to get a sort of painterly effect form an otherwise pretty boring bunch of C4D particles.

I played with several different settings and then layered them in AE with various transfer modes to get this:

I also found a great effect by accident.
The plug apparently works by looking at the previous and next frame, and uses these to create the "blur" for the current frame.

If there is a large discrepancy from frame to frame, it makes some very cool attempts to reconcile the frames.

For reasons having to to with TDEM, my first frame was of all the particles at one point.

The second (interpreted) frame was this.
